"Claire? Hey, you still with me?" Ted asked Claire, as she had sort of... tranced into staring off into space. She shakes out of it, her brown eyes meeting his before smiling. "Yeah, sorry. Just some things on my mind."
Ted sat back for a second, resting his hands on the edge of the table. This was a nice restaurant he'd taken Claire to. Lit candle separating them, bottle of wine sitting in the bucket, stellar pasta meal, the works. He was hoping to break through Claire's exterior to start seeing more of her from the inside... "Ah..." which he was hoping to do here. "Care to talk about it?"
Actually, I want to, she wanted to say. She knew she had to say something. She really liked him, but didn't know how he'd take her profession. She was in a high risk place in her life, where she could be a vegetable tomorrow if she took a piledriver wrong. This, this was growing more and more into her rock instead of being in front of thousands of screaming fans, raking in a lot of the cash... It was a chance at a much simplier life. But, it's not something that she wanted to risk either going bye-bye by speaking too soon.
But, "Actually, a friend of mine was jumped," she just had to say something.
"Really? Wow..."
He leaned forward as Claire's eyes slide back toward the edge of the table again... "Are they going to be okay? Did you guys call the police?"
"Ah.... I..." She didn't know what else to say. Her mind was a bit cluttered since finding KITSU beaten on her apartment floor, more or less what she planned to do to the assailant than if the police were called. It actually kind of came with the territory... another thing that could freak him out. People getting jumped when they're not looking, others trying to intentionally injure... all of that stuff.... that lovely stuff.... "I think someone was called. She knows who did it... so hopefully someone takes care of them soon..."
"Well, that's a relief.
Well, on that part at least. I don't know about you, but I'd be trying to find that person myself..."
She had to smile at that. Maybe we're not so different after all, is what she wanted to say... "I'm sure that someone's using that mentality right now..." she said with a light giggle. She wrapped her fingers around the wine glass in front of her, taking a light drink. She set it down, and ran her fingers along its shaft while looking up at him.
It was getting to the point now where silences between the two weren't seemingly awkward, but welcome times to get lost in their own thoughts of one another while having the visual aid right in front of them.
She stood from her chair and walked to the other side of the table, bringing the chair with her. She set it down next to him, taking the seat and resting her head on his shoulder. One hand rest on his strong bicep, the other's fingers intertwined with his. "I'm sure that everything will be alright..." he said, resting his cheek on the top of her head. He took in the beautiful scent of her hair, before reaching under her chin with is free hand. The two kiss as the music plays in the background, and Claire pushes the thoughts out of her mind momentarily.
