The scenery passed her sights. Almost in a trance while the car rolled along the streets of Long Beach, California. A normal everyday thing for her lately with the acquisition of her new "job". She had come a long way from her humble beginnings of her childhood. From barely having enough food to calm her hunger to having each and everything a woman could ever wish for at her disposal, in a matter of weeks it seemed. All of a sudden her life had changed dramatically.
Yet the look on her face wouldn't suggest so.
Confusion, disillusion and maybe even a trace of fright was clear and evident as she blankly stared out into the beautiful landscapes of the California city. Something was missing. Something she, had for so long searched for and wished to have. Something it seemed everyone with the exception of herself, had.
A long breath was taken, exhaling as the sounds of the phone in the back of the limousine could be heard ringing. She turned her attention towards the rear view mirror of the car, making eye contact with the driver instantly. His cold blue eyes nearly penetrated her very soul each time they met with hers. It was as if he could decipher her every emotion and thought at times. Which worried her greatly considering the thoughts that ran through her mind as the phone continued to ring over and over again. Slowly his eyes found their way back to the road ahead, just as a grunt could be heard from him, as if instructing her to act in haste and answer the incoming call. She knew it would be best for her to swiftly oblige, and she did so. Reaching for the receiver she took it up into her hands at a slow pace. It was clear she was regretting having to answer this call, but knew that there was no way around it.
At least not now there wasn't.
"Hello."
"Mrs. Krause. Good I've caught you before you arrived here back at the mansion. There seems to be a slight change of plans concerning your next objective I'm afraid."
"Quite alright sir. What can I do for you?"
"Well it involves a previous..."Loose end", that one of our newest associates had to..."Eliminate" so to speak."
A look of confusion once again came over her face, thinking just what this had to do with her. If he was eliminated, what did they want to ask of her at this point in time.
"I see. Sir, then what would you have me do then if the man in question has been taken care of?"
"In all actuality, it involves one of his many brothers in arms Mrs. Krause. As well as someone we've dealt with remotely in the past before. Mr. Cross Genovese."
Instant shock over came her, as her mouth hung agape hearing the name. Within a second her eyes had once again darted to the rear view mirror, seeing that the driver was still focused on their path back to the mansion, and thankfully not noticing the clear look of surprise in her eyes. Clearing her throat, she attempted to act as normal as possible before going on again.
"Ye...Yes, Mr. Genovese. What of him sir?"
"It appears that, our good friend Mr. Genovese has surprisingly left the lovely city of Chicago for some odd reason. My associates and I thought this to be quite strange, following a bit of reconnaissance on his desired destination that is."
"Let me guess. Aruba?"
"One would think so Mrs. Krause, but actually...England."
Another shocking and unexpected moment it seemed. Shaking her head she tried to gather why the young superstar would be traveling to England of all places at a time such as this. She as well as the others were always throughly informed of any and all associates of anyone they saw worthy of "interest" in their operations, so this development was very shocking to say the least.
"That, makes no sense sir. Mr. Genovese has no allies or even enemies residing in England. What would he stand to gain from the journey there?"
"That is what we wish to discover Cassandra. You do have all of your necessary tools needed for the journey don't you Cassandra?"
"Y...Yes sir. Always. But what would I be doi..."
"Merely observing Mrs. Krause. That is all. There is to be NO contact made with Mr. Genovese during his unexpected trip across seas. But we are expecting a very detailed report on all of his movements and interactions with any and every one he should come in contact with. Is this understood?"
She was silent but for a second before replying.
"Yes sir. But, I must ask, what would be the purpose of this surveillance? Phase 1 has been completed already so is there even a reason to waste the man power on such a thing?"
"Because in a time of war dear? It is always best to expect...The unexpected. I'll have no more inquires of reason Mrs. Krause. If you cannot perform the required task, surely I can..."
"No! No sir, my apologies sir. I was merely worried that our overall mission might be compromised wasting time on Mr. Genovese's travel habits is all. I'll instruct the driver to re-route me to the airport and get back in contact with you before I depart. My apologies sir."
"Very good Mrs. Krause. And, one more thing Mrs. Krause if you would...?"
"Yes sir?"
"Do be a dear and keep a lookout for a certain young female in particular if you would? This may be a ploy to get some alone time with her out of the reach of prying eyes by Mr. Genovese. With him, you never can tell so..."
"Yes sir, I'll make it one of my primary tasks sir. And if he does in fact make contact with her while there sir?"
A long pause came over the conversation as she asked her last question of the phone call. She waited for what seemed like moments upon moments for a response. After realizing he didn't seem to be on the verge of answering her inquiry, her mind quickly realized that the mere question must have upset him. Something she had found out quickly was NOT the wisest of things. Quickly she spoke up into the phone once more with...
"...Sir I was just saying that, he cou..."
Almost instantly the sound of a dial tone could be heard. He had ended the phone call. She knew then that the very thought of Mr. Genovese making contact with her had pushed him over the edge just as it had so many times over the preceding months. She let out a long breath as she returned the phone back to it's base. Looking up towards the driver she nodded her head before speaking up.
"Change of plans. Looks like I'm going on a field trip Brock. To the airport please"
To Be Concluded...
