A friend of mine at work who is a major novice in the computer world wants to purchase a laptop. He looked at two very cheap ones that are a Compaq and an HP. I told him not to go that route even though they are very inexpensive. He wants to buy it to piddle as he says and not sure why he wants it since he has a desktop. He has to call a friend so often to clean his temp files out since he knows as much about computers as perhaps my mother. Which is not much. So I checked and I know if I was buying one then I would not cheap out but I guess my point is where do I go from here? Tell him to buy the cheap and probably worthless compaq/hp or tell him what I would buy? I know the dude does not have the 1300 for what I would get and know his knowledge and what he wants it for won't guarantee the purchase. Just looking for advice or what laptop to tell him.
My first thing was just to tell him you are not on it that much or do that much to it to buy such an item. But I know he wants to purchase it for some reason so just scratching my head on why.

Wouldn't buy a laptop if I would be him. The only time you need a laptop is when you are traveling a lot and have a work on this travels.
He could buy for the money for the laptop a really good PC ...
