The meeting had gone wonderfully. Well to be quite honest, it did in fact have it’s weak points throughout, yet Taylor felt that the overall barriers were foregone at least. That was much more than most would likely have been able to say for such short notice on such a group effort being together. So, after a brief conversation with Brianna on what would be first on the agenda as far as the business end of things, Taylor made sure to secure a bit of private time to…Check on something. Or someone for that matter.
The cellular device was held in her hand firmly, as her thumb seemed to dance over the keypad, dialing the appropriate numbers needed to begin the forthcoming exchange of dialog. A deep, almost anxiety filled sigh left her lips, stepping out of the elevator, one floor down from where the meeting with Mr. Cage and the replacements was held. This last reach for “talent” able to assist in their common goal was something she was sure could be a bit tricky to pull off. Tricky meaning that, despite weeks and weeks of her speaking with this particular grappler regarding securing his services, he hadn’t returned one of her calls, nor confirmed that he was even remotely interested. Not even a return call to inform her that he was in no way, no how interested in assisting her or anyone else, in anything.
A brisk walking motion, the phone pressed to her ear now, navigating the length of the corridor of which her personal suite was located. Before she could even focus her sights on her suite towards the end of the hallway in question, the voice on the other end registered, bringing a forced smile to her face, as if attempting to get a jump on the negotiations that hopefully would be discussed here today. Not wasting a single moment, finally realizing the chance to speak with the man in question, she began…
“If we didn’t have so much in common, and so much history I would have believed you were avoiding me on purpose. Look…I know this is an awkward request, especially coming from me to you but…When things of this magnitude are to be executed, it always needs people who’ve done the “impossible” before. I also know that, there IS a sense of distrust on both of our parts regarding events I won’t speak of right now…”
She let her last words linger, almost hanging out there for him to respond…Yet he did not. Not a single word was muttered on the opposite end. Her vision fell towards the carpet beneath her as she retrieved the key card from her purse, fumbling with the items momentarily, before making the appropriate motions with the key card to open the way into her suite. Seconds later the door was pushed ajar, as she quickly stepped inside, so as to not be overheard by the few prying eyes and ears occupying the corridor. Closing the door behind her she began once more, placing her free hand on her hip, as her tone had now taken on a much serious one…
“Look, let’s not be foolish here. This is the opportunity of a lifetime and…”
Laughter, instantly from the mouth of the man on the other end hearing her words. She only nodded her head, as the frustration in her demeanor began to amass by the second. Then…
“Alright. Alright…I know you. I know you too well and the same can be said vice versa. We have a very capable starting unit here but…They lack the necessary experience when dealing with such things. It was different with the original Order. There was so much raw talent and experience there, my job was anything but difficult. This is different. Though I guess it would have been POSSIBLE to recruit one or two of the old “crew”, our associates thought it best to go with new blood instead of recycling. No offense to neither Mr. Starr nor Mr. Kincaid of course. We both know they’re capable and could be instrumental for what’s next to come. But if someone such as you were to co-sign onto this…It could make the world of difference as far as how we’re perceived and the amount of confidence the others are to put into this thing. “
She stopped for a moment, allowing for her words to sink in with him. Hoping that perhaps, just perhaps, he would consider coming aboard, in any possible capacity he would consider. She knew it was far fetched. Actually, bordering that of the truly impossible for him to agree but…Sometimes to achieve greatness, and to truly make a definitive statement in your chosen profession, one must step outside of the norm, and make sacrifices…Even if it’s ones pride…
She waited impatiently, her free hand rising towards the phone pressed against her ear, now clasping the device with both hands as if her hands were mimicking a praying motion. The silence seemed to be overbearing to her by this point in time, her agitation getting the best of her as her mouth opened, preparing to speak once again, as she suddenly cut off by his voice responding…
